Friends & NASCAR

Today, after I dropped the group off at the Carowinds Amusement park (don't worry...Dick, Sheri, & Bill were with the students!) I took the time to get some further work done on my message for Sunday morning. After getting some work completed, I visited a couple of friends, Chris & Melissa Cirino & family (Alex, Jenna, & Chris) who live just north of Charlotte, near the Lowe's Motor Speedway. Great times catching up with friends from our first church in Philly! It was awesome seeing Chris as a man who loves God, and his family in such an obvious way.

However, a close second to those choices is his love for NASCAR. Admittedly, I've never been any kind of fan of turning left, and as it is difficult for me to cheer-on grown men in jumpsuits, the attraction to watching people drive on TV has always escaped me. (I do, however love to see the wrecks on ESPN after the races.) Since the days Chris & I ended our dreams of playing baseball for the Phillies together (we did go to a try-out...they didn't call either of us back...) Chris moved his family to Harrisburg, NC, just slightly out of reach of the shadow of the speedway.

It was so cool to reconnect and to see God's obvious blessing on my friends and their family. Oh yeah...it was cool to see Ricky Bobby's race car from the movie, too.
