WIN A NEW BIBLE!!!

Want to win a FREE COPY of the new MOSAIC BIBLE from Tyndale House Publishing? Keep reading to find out how!

Recently, I was given the opportunity to preview a new and unique type of study Bible from Tyndale called the "Mosaic" Bible.

A mosaic is a collection of little bits of broken glass and stone that seem inconsequential on their own, but when brought together form an image of beauty.

The Mosaic Bible combines weekly thematic readings, traditional artwork from around the world, areas for journaling and note-taking, and writings of meditation and reflection, all set to the New Living Translation (NLT) Bible (my personal favorite).

Personally, I think that one of the coolest things about the Mosaic Bible is the fact that it couples the modern, easy to read language of the New Living Translation (NLT) Bible and couples it with more traditional and ageless themes and meditations of the church through the ages.

The Bible packaging lists the price as being $29.95 for the hardcover edition, however, it can be ordered from Amazon (see the link on this page) for only $19.79 (hardcover).

Want to win a FREE COPY of the Mosaic Bible?
Today the comment section of my blog will be visited by guest blogger, Keith Williams. Keith is the General Editor of the Mosaic Bible, is a Bible reference editor at Tyndale, and has an M.A. in Biblical Exegesis. Keith will be moderating the comment section of this post, and he will be available to answer any questions you might have regarding Mosaic.

Tyndale House Publishing has provided the opportunity for me to give away a FREE COPY of the Mosaic Bible (hardcover). All you need to do to win is to post a comment or question connected to this post, and you will be added to the drawing!

Additionally, if you are on Twitter and you "Tweet" that people should visit www.prsrant.com to win the Mosaic Bible, I will add an additional entry for each time you tweet!

Hope you win! Comment away!

I'd love to win a copy to give to my church's Christian education minister, because I think it would be a great resource for her efforts to help us connect with the wider Church around the world and through history. Also, she's really pushing the congregation to deepen our practice of prayer, and Mosaic sounds like a great tool for her efforts in that regard too.

And a question: I note that Mosaic does not seem to have much connection in its choices of readings to the Revised Common Lectionary. Not a complaint, but it makes me wonder how the Mosaic team chose the topics and readings for each week in the Christian year. Was it based on some combination of lectionaries in use by different denominations, or was it a more freeform effort? Also, most lectionaries are multi-year cycles, whereas Mosaic has a single one-year cycle. How did that affect the choices of weekly themes and readings?

Thanks for the opportunity to interact with your readers, Pastor Rich!

@Scott Rogers
This is a great question. When we originally proposed this project, I had it in mind that we would use the RCL strictly, but as you pointed out, there is a three-year cycle, so we would have either had to choose one and had a Bible that was only useful every third year, or create three different Bibles. Neither of these seemed like good options, and even then there would have been issues with how many weeks to create and how to help people unfamiliar with the RCL and the church year in general to use the Bible.

So here's what we did: In creating a system that could be used year after year, I consulted all three years in the RCL (A, B, and C) as well as the Book of Common Prayer systems for each week in the church year. In the season of Pentecost I was a bit more free in my selections, but in Advent through Easter, all of the passages come from one or more of the standard lectionaries. So what we have is a hybrid, one-year lectionary system that has connections to two of the most widely used lectionaries around the world.

Love the idea of a Mosaic Bible...anything to get people excited about the Word is cool with me.

Thanks for responding, Keith. I think you and your team did an outstanding, thoughtful job, and I'll be curious to see if any congregations that do not currently overtly observe the Christian year use Mosaic as the basis for a year of lectionary preaching.

Pastor RIch,

One correction - I believe the Mosaic is published by Tyndale, not Zondervan as you mentioned on this post.
Right, Keith? :)

Hi Everyone!

Thanks for posting your comments and questions. Don't forget, if you use Twitter, direct people to www.prsrant.com to enter the drawing, also. If you mention my Twitter name @prsrant you'll get an additional entry in the drawing each time you Tweet about the drawing. So, stuff the "ballot box" in your favor and help me get the word out about the Mosaic Bible!

Thanks!

P.S. Sorry about stating earlier that the Bible was from Zondervan. It is, in fact, from TYNDALE HOUSE PUBLISHING. My mistake! (Thanks for the heads-up J. Hugo!)

Saw a Mosaic Bible yesterday for the first time...very cool. Also the Advent devotional looks fantastic. For what it’s worth I love the NLT second edition. Personal favorite verse: Colossians 2.7 “Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.” Such pop, I love the translation!
